NEW YORK — Two Siberian tigers killed a female zoo keeper Monday in a forested habitat at the Bronx Zoo while a trainee escaped by scrambling over a 16-foot fence, officials said.
Robin Silverman, 24, of Manhattan was killed when she and Barbara Burke, 20, entered part of the zoo’s exhibit, not realizing that the two tigers were nearby, zoo director William Conway said. “For some reason, Miss Silverman apparently thought the tigers were elsewhere†in the zoo’s two-acre forested habitat area, Conway said.
