Four Austrian wine makers have been arrested and charged with fraud for allegedly using the toxic chemical diethylene glycol, an antifreeze solution, to sweeten their wine, a government spokesman said. The four were identified as Siegfried Tschida and Josef Tschida (not related), Georg Steiner and Johann Sautner. The arrests were made over the weekend as Austrian authorities continued their investigation into the contamination of thousands of bottles of wine, which were exported to West Germany and other European countries.
