San Diego police are investigating a Sunday night incident in which a 22-year-old National City man was shot by an unidentified assailant in a passing vehicle.
Ruben G. Paredes, 29, received a gunshot wound to the abdomen as he was leaving a Logan Heights birthday celebration and the car passed about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Police say about 50 people were at the celebration, but no one was able to identify or describe the suspect vehicle or its occupants.
Paredes was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.
