Bill Hughes has been named to fill the head basketball coach’s position at Loara High School, according to school principal Gerald Glenn.
Hughes, 32, formerly served for four years as the coach of Reseda High School. He guided the Regents to the City championship in 1982-83 with a 24-1 record and again in 1983-84 with a 23-4 mark.
A year ago, Hughes became the head coach at Pierce College, while maintaining his teaching position at Reseda. He resigned at Pierce College after the season, and had been expected to return to his coaching position at Reseda.
He began his career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Bell High School.
At Loara, he replaces Brian Daly, who resigned last month to become an assistant coach at the University of Iowa after leading the Saxons to their best season in years, a fifth place finish in the Empire League and a 9-13 overall record.
