2 Suspects Charged in Killing at Hansen Dam
Two Compton men were arraigned on murder charges Tuesday in the shooting death of a 27-year-old Pacoima man at Hansen Dam Park on July 4.
Frederick Staves, 22, and Konrad Kessee, 21, are charged with murdering Rudolph Burkes by shooting him in the back with a handgun, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Cesar Sarmiento. The shooting took place about 3:45 p.m. Burkes died at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills that evening.
Sarmiento said investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, but declined to discuss the case further. Staves and Kessee are being held in County Jail without bail.
A preliminary hearing on the charges has been scheduled for July 19 in San Fernando Municipal Court.
