A road surveyor for Orange County was critically injured Tuesday when he was hit by a car near the intersection of Irvine Boulevard and Sand Canyon Avenue in Irvine, California Highway Patrol officers said.
William A. Mabie, 25, of Garden Grove suffered severe head injuries when struck by a car going north on Irvine Boulevard at 11:05 a.m., CHP Officer Corky Elliott said. The vehicle was traveling about 30 m.p.h., Elliott said.
Mabie was attempting to cross the street and apparently did not see the car approaching, Elliott said. He was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit Tuesday evening.
Irvine Boulevard is being widened in the area where the accident occurred, a county transportation official said.
