Limited Shake Roof Ban Ordered Drafted
Fire-prone wood shake roofs would be banned on any new buildings constructed in unincorporated areas represented by Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, under an ordinance ordered drafted Tuesday.
Hahn had sought a ban on such roofing materials throughout the county’s unincorporated areas, but the Board of Supervisors’ conservative majority--Pete Schabarum, Deane Dana and Mike Antonovich--objected.
The ordinance, which must be returned to the board for final action, does not ban use of wood shakes on existing structures.
