A Superior Court judge ruled that a jury should decide whether a former Chicano studies professor and a former graduate student at California State University, Los Angeles, were libeled by a Los Angeles Times article about campus violence. But Judge Norman Epstein dropped six other plaintiffs from the case and ruled irrelevant a request by attorneys for Bert Corona and Gerardo Hidalgo, the remaining plaintiffs, to explore The Times’ marketing strategies and hiring practices.
