Jurors awarded $750,000 to Virgil Henry, 42, from the Southern California Rapid Transit District because a bus ran over him six years ago, severing his left foot. Michael Piuze, Henry’s attorney, said Henry was waiting at a bus stop at 103rd Street and Wilmington Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Oct. 22, 1979, on his way to work in a produce market when he was dragged under the bus. RTD attorneys, who are expected to ask Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Bonnie Lee Martin for a new trial, claimed that Henry fell under the wheels as he ran to catch up with the bus. Henry is now a medical transcriber.
