Runoff Aug. 3 in Texas 1st Congressional District

AUSTIN, Tex. — An Aug. 3 runoff was set Tuesday in Texas’ 1st Congressional District between Republican Edward Hargett and Democrat Jim Chapman.
State officials certified a canvass of Saturday’s special election, showing Hargett the leader with 42%, or 29,720 votes. Chapman finished second with 30%, or 21,382 votes. The election is being held to replace Democrat Sam B. Hall, who resigned his seat to become a federal judge.
