ROME — An explosion rocked the international section of Leonardo Da Vinci airport at about 8 p.m. today, injuring six people, police said.
Police said the explosion appeared to have originated in a suitcase that was headed to an airliner set to take off for India, but they did not give the name of the airline. Witnesses said the explosion caused panicked travelers to flee the area. The airport was shut down briefly to air traffic, but reopened shortly thereafter. The extent of the damage was not immediately known.
