New President Named for Southern University

BATON ROUGE, La. — Joffre T. Whisenton has been named president of Southern University, the nation’s largest historically black university. Whisenton, 51, has been affiliated with the Southern Assn. of Colleges and Schools, one of the nation’s six regional accrediting agencies.
