Wiggins Goes 1 for 4, Commits 2 Errors in His Rochester Debut
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Alan Wiggins had a shaky debut in the International League Saturday night as his new team, the Rochester Red Wings, coasted to a 10-1 victory over the Richmond Braves.
Wiggins, who was traded to the Baltimore Orioles by the San Diego Padres Thursday and sent to the minors to play himself into shape, went 1 for 4 and committed two errors at second base.
He led off the game with a walk but was thrown out trying to steal second base. His teammates went on to score four runs in the inning.
Wiggins recently completed a drug rehabilitation program, which he voluntarily entered in late April after batting .054 on 2 hits in 37 at-bats for the Padres.
