San Diego : Hostage Incident Ends in Arrest
A gunman who allegedly held his former girlfriend and her parents hostage in their Clairemont home on Saturday was arrested by members of a San Diego police SWAT team after a five-hour standoff, police reported.
David Roach, 22, was taken into custody about 5 a.m. when he went to the front door of the house, located in the 4100 block of Quapaw Avenue, to talk with officers.
The incident began about midnight when Roach reportedly went to the house and demanded to see his former girlfriend. Roach allegedly forced his way into the house, threatening Teri Schamp, 18, and her parents, Herbert and Sharon Schamp, with a .44-caliber pistol. One shot was fired, but no one was injured.
Moments later, Herbert Schamp, 47, called police and escaped through a window. When SWAT officers arrived, they surrounded the house, contacted Roach by telephone and eventually persuaded him to come to the door.
Roach was booked into County Jail on suspicion of false imprisonment, brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner, carrying a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm and resisting arrest.
