Villa Park : City Clerk Will Serve as City Manager Also
After two years with only a part-time city manager, the City Council has appointed City Clerk Carolyn Veregge to take over the reins of the small city, which has a population of 7,125 and an area of about 2.1 square miles.
Tennessee-reared Veregge began working for the city as a part-time secretary 14 years ago, moved on to deputy city clerk and then city clerk in 1978. She said the move has been in the offing for some time and she learned a great deal from Yorba Linda City Manager Arthur Simonian, who has filled in two days a week for the past two years as a consulting manager.
“It’s a neat city,†she said. “It’s kind of a small-town community within an urban area. There’s a real Southern-type atmosphere in that people are very friendly.â€
Veregge, who will have the title city manager/city clerk, said the combining of the two jobs is a cost-cutting measure but she couldn’t say exactly how much will be saved.
