Bread and Water Has New Meaning: Entire Meal in Loaf

LANSING, Mich. — Unruly inmates who hurl their food at guards in Michigan prisons will be served entire meals all neatly baked into loaves for less mess, a Department of Corrections spokeswoman said today.
“Instead of giving them a tray full of food, you give them a loaf,” spokeswoman Gail Light said. “Three meals a day you get this great big loaf of all your food.”
Inmates who throw their food will be served the loaves until their behavior is curbed, she said, adding that loaves are easier to clean up.
“It’s not supposed to be used as punishment,” she said of the loaves. “We’re seasoning it. I’ve tasted some of the samples. I wouldn’t say it’s horrifying. It’s all right.”
