CAMPBELL, Calif. — City officials have confirmed that convicted murderer and rapist Archie Fain has quietly moved from Hayward to Campbell.
Fain was paroled in 1983, despite a great public protest. On Wednesday, he registered as a sex offender with Campbell police.
Fain was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of kidnaping and raping two high school girls and killing their male companion in Stanislaus County in 1969.
He was twice denied parole after 62,500 people signed petitions asking that he not be released. He finally gained parole after an appellate court ruled that the second parole had been improperly rescinded.
Campbell Police Chief Don Burr said Friday that only a few inquiring phone calls have been received, mostly from people who wanted to know Fain’s address.
Burr said he had not released that information.
