Edison Coach Bill Workman Seeks Voluntary Drug Testing
Coach Bill Workman of Edison High School in Huntington Beach is calling for voluntary, random drug testing for his football players, the Orange Coast Daily Pilot reported Thursday.
Workman’s teams have won 98 games and two California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section championships. He has been a coach at Edison since 1973.
“The drug problem at Edison is no greater than at other schools,†Workman told Huntington Beach Union High School District trustees. “But drugs are widespread, real, and they are increasing.â€
The proposed program is encountering resistance from district officials.
Parents of players would decide whether their children would participate. Only the parents would know the tests results, he said. They, in turn, could contact the athletic department for help if desired.
