Evelyn Ashford, the world record-holder in the women’s 100-meter dash, gave birth to her first child--a girl named Raina Ashley Washington--at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center this morning, her publicist said.
Ashford, 28, is married to Ray Washington, a basketball coach at Mt. San Jacinto College in Hemet. Ashford set her world record of 10.76 seconds at Zurich, Switzerland, two weeks after winning the gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
