Artificial heart patient William J. Schroeder’s body is absorbing blood that washed over his brain tissue, causing a stroke, but more tests are needed to give doctors a better idea of his condition, a spokeswoman said at Humana Hospital Audubon in Louisville, Ky. Schroeder, 53, remained in Audubon’s coronary care unit in critical but stable condition on his 166th day with a mechanical pump.
