U.S. Warns Travelers to Poland

WASHINGTON — The government today advised U.S. tourists to Krakow, Poland, to exercise extreme caution because of “recent erratic and arbitrary behavior” by officials there.
State Department spokesman Edward Djerejian said the travel advisory was issued because of the detention of four U.S. tourists May 3 for being near a May Day demonstration. He had earlier described a charge that they threw rocks at police as preposterous.
