Steinbrenner Doesn’t Know It, but He Has Only Himself to Blame
The Steinbrenner-Martin-Berra fiasco has caused this faithful New York Yankee fan to wonder why a multimillionaire owner of a baseball team hires a manager after he’s fired him over and over again. I could find but one answer: George Steinbrenner has found his organ grinder’s monkey--a classic case of a drunk and his keeper.
If Billy Martin is such an example of leadership, even excluding his well documented antics on and off the field, why would he allow himself to be fired three times (and inevitably a fourth)? If you or I did that, relatives would make discreet reservations for a stay in a nice hospital in the country.
The Steinbrenner and Martin sideshow degrades the great traditions of both baseball and the Yankees.
