Prep HIGHLIGHTS : North Hollywood Wins, 4-2

Doug Williams’ three-run homer in the sixth inning broke open a tie game, and North Hollywood went on to beat Fairfax, 4-2, Thursday in an East Valley League game at home.

Tim Driscoll (5-3) earned the win with a complete game and lowered his earned-run average to 1.06.

North Hollywood’s Steve Bernstein had two hits to boost his average to .514.

North Hollywood is 10-3 in league. Fairfax is 6-7.

Sylmar 5, Poly 0

Biff McGahan pitched a complete- game shutout at Poly to help Sylmar remain in sole possession of first place in the East Valley League.

McGahan, 5-0, gave up just two hits and struck out three.

Brent Packer, Jose Garcia and Mark Girard each had two hits and a run batted in.

Sylmar is 11-2 in league. Poly is 3-10.

Cleveland 6, Reseda 2

Mark Bowen capped a four-run rally with a three-run homer in the third inning as Cleveland won its West Valley League game at Reseda.

Bowen had three hits and three RBIs.

Brian Ogle had two hits for Reseda, including a home run.

Pat Almeido pitched a complete game and scattered six hits to earn the win.

Cleveland is 6-4 in league. Reseda is 3-7.

Chatsworth 8, Taft 4

Bill Berry and Mike Ernst hit home runs as first-place Chatsworth pounded out 15 hits in a West Valley League win at home.

Ernst, Mark Pfeiffer and Chae-Ho Chong each had three hits.

Will L’Heureux (4-0) pitched six innings to earn the win.

Granada Hills 5, Birmingham 0

Tony Beneduce pitched a three-hit shutout as Granada Hills won a Mid-Valley League game at Birmingham.

Skip Close led Granada Hills with two hits and two RBIs.

Granada, 8-2, remains in first place in league. Birmingham is 4-6.

SOFTBALL

Burroughs 10, San Gabriel 1

Christy Alves pitched a one-hitter as Burroughs beat San Gabriel to set up a showdown with Hart on Tuesday for first place in the Foothill League.

Alves, who lost a shutout in the seventh inning, still improved her record to 13-3.

Teri Peppi, Tiffany Buck and Jacqie DeLang each had two RBIs.

Burroughs and Hart are tied for first place in the Foothill standings with 7-1 records. The first meeting between the schools was won by Burroughs, 2-1, on an Alves two-hitter.

The rematch is at Hart.

Hart 7, Alhambra 0

Cyndi Smith and Samantha Ford combined on a four-hit shutout. The Hart victory at Alhambra keeps the Indians in pace with Burroughs.

Natalie Davidson had two hits and two RBIs, and Yvette Baltazar added two hits and an RBI in support of Smith, who improved her record to 13-3.

Hart (7-1, 17-4) hosts Burroughs Tuesday in a battle of the Foothill League co-leaders.

Viewpoint 10-22, Coast Chr. 0-0

Julie Berkman and Roxana Rafik allowed just one hit over 10 innings, and Viewpoint won an abbreviated Heritage League doubleheader over Coast Christian at Chatsworth Park.

Berkman tossed a one-hitter in the five-inning opener to improve her record to 4-0.

Rafik, 11-1, threw a no-hitter in the second game, striking out 13 of the 15 batters she faced.

Offensively, Berkman had five hits and eight RBIs, and Kim Fields had four hits and six RBIs, including two solo home runs in the opener.

Viewpoint, the top-rated team in the Small Schools division, is 6-0 in league and 15-1 overall.

Kennedy 9, Chatsworth 6

Debbie Jones hit a pair of three-run homers as visiting Kennedy beat Chatsworth in a Valley North League game.

Jones hit the home runs in the third and seventh innings, and the Golden Cougars (6-0, 13-6) remained in first place.
