Father Blase About Birth of 44th Child; 2 More on the Way
TEL AVIV — Unlike most new fathers, Sheik Mohammed Abu-Zidan was blase about the birth this week of his son--his 44th child.
“With the first two children, a man gets excited,†he told Israel Radio. “But with 44, you don’t get excited any more.â€
Abu-Zidan, a Bedouin who lives in Israel’s southern Negev Desert, said two of his four wives are pregnant.
“A man without a family feels weak,†he said. “On the other hand, it is very difficult for a man with four wives and 44 children. But I manage.â€
He added that were he able to start over again, he would prefer only one wife, “which would be less trouble,†and four or five children.
