A pilot was killed Sunday night when his single-engine plane crashed on Old Highway 395 outside this small unincorporated town north of Fallbrook, authorities reported.

There were no passengers in the plane and no fire in the crash, a quarter-mile north of Rainbow Valley Boulevard, the spokeswoman said.
