A 2-year-old San Diego boy whose eye socket was pierced Monday when he fell on top of a kitchen knife is listed in fair condition at Children’s Hospital, according to hospital authorities. Daniel Williams was in his Southeast San Diego kitchen with his mother and 4-year-old sister when he toppled from a kitchen stool with a 7-inch knife in hand, causing the blade to enter 3 inches into his skull, just above his right eye, police said. He was taken to Children’s Hospital with the knife still in his eye and underwent 2 1/2 hours of surgery, according to San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson. After removing the knife and checking for damage, doctors found that the blade had not injured the boy’s eye or entered his brain. Although some muscle tissue had been cut, it was all repairable, according to a hospital spokesman.
