The pilot of an ultralight aircraft was injured Sunday morning when the engine failed, causing the craft to plunge 80 feet to the ground, authorities reported. A San Diego County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said that Sandy Diefenbach, 39, was flying the single-seat aircraft for an unidentified film crew at time of the crash, which occurred at the San Diego Ultralight Park on the Barona Indian reservation. Diefenbach was transported by Life Flight to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition with a fractured ankle and face and back injuries. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
