Santa Ana College pitcher Alani Silva pitched a one-hitter to pace the Dons’ softball team, ranked No. 1 in the state, to a South Coast Conference win at home win over No. 4 Golden West, 1-0, Friday.
Silva, who threw a no-hitter earlier in the season against Moorpark, came within three outs of recording her second no-hitter.
Santa Ana (26-2) was having problems of its own offensively. The Dons’ only score came after Sam Arledge led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple. After Silva was intentionally walked, Nelinda Barrera won the game with a single.
Silva (14-1) struck out only two. Golden West had been the only team that’s beaten her this season.
In other South Coast Conference action:
Fullerton 1, Cerritos 0--The Hornets had only one hit in the game but it proved to be the game winner as Fullerton remained atop the conference with a 7-0 record. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Darlene Trenary walked and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a wild pitch moved Trenary to third, she scored on Rose Muckenthaler’s single to center. Lisa Fresquez (19-4) struck out three and allowed three hits in earning the win.
