Kim Thompson of Compton High School, who averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds a game, was named the South Coast area’s girls Player of the Year Tuesday night in the Harry Chandler Auditorium at The Times Mirror Building in downtown Los Angeles.
Her coach, Carolyn Montgomery, was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Montgomery guided Compton to an undefeated record and the Southern Section 4-A championship.
Although Thompson, a three-year All-Moore League selection, played center, her goal in college is to be the first 6-foot point guard.
In the Southeast area, Julie King of Gahr was named Player of the Year and Eleanor Dykstra of Valley Christian was named Coach of the Year.
