Rick Neuheisel threw two touchdown passes and Nick Mike-Mayer kicked three field goals Monday night as the San Antonio Gunslingers rolled to a 33-0 United States Football League victory over the mistake-prone Portland Breakers.

San Antonio (2-4) had scored just 46 points in its first five games and was a two-touchdown underdog against Portland, which dropped to 2-4 and lost for the first time in three games at home.

Neuheisel, starting for the first time in three weeks, completed all but four of his 17 passes for 152 yards.

Portland quarterback Matt Robinson threw three interceptions before leaving the game after three quarters. .

One of the thefts by Gunslinger lineman Ken Neil at the Breakers’ 14-yard line set up Mike-Mayer’s 33-yard field goal to give San Antonio a 13-0 lead with nine seconds left in the half.

Mike-Mayer added a 38-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Seconds later, the Gunslingers’ Rock Richmond stole another Robinson pass and returned it 32 yards for a score with 4 minutes and 6 seconds left in the third quarter, and Neuheisel’s two-point conversion pass to Jerry Gordon made it 24-0.

Neuheisel turned the game into a rout with a 39-yard scoring pass to a wide-open Jerry Gordon 50 seconds into the fourth period.

The final score came when Portland snapped the ball out of the end zone in a shotgun formation for a safety with 3:34 to play.
