Cannery Motif for Maui Mart
Ground breaking is expected in August for the Lahaina Cannery Shopping Center to be built in the one-time Hawaiian whaling port of Maui.
From the outside, the $15-million development will appear to be the old Lahaina Pineapple Cannery which stood on the site for almost 100 years. However, the old corrugated metal structure had to be demolished because it was too fragile, and a replica will be built.
The project is being developed by Hawaii Omori Corp. The Bannister Group, the interiors division of McClellan Cruz Gaylord & Associates, architects, of Pasadena, has completed the interior design. The shoping center is expected to be completed by the fall of 1986.
