Spring Training / Dodgers : Hershiser Gives Up 4 RBIs to Davis; Reds Win

TAMPA, Fla. — Eric Davis, who has been sidelined with a pulled thigh muscle, drove in four runs with a home run and an infield single Friday to power the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-1 exhibition victory over the Dodgers.

Davis picked on Dodger starter Orel Hershiser for a two-run homer in the third inning and a two-run single in the fourth. Davis’ homer gave the Reds a 2-0 lead, and his infield single sparked a four-run rally after the Dodgers had closed to 2-1.

With two out in the fourth, Cincinnati’s Tom Foley and Brad Gulden scored when shortstop Dave Anderson fielded Davis’ hard grounder behind second base but was unable to throw out Davis.

Red starter Jay Tibbs gave way to Tom Hume in the seventh. Hume pitched two shutout innings, and Carl Willis held the Dodgers scoreless in the ninth as Cincinnati snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Dodgers scored in the fourth after a single by Ken Landreaux, Davis’ error in left field on the play and a single by Pedro Guerrero.

Dodger Notes

Sid Bream’s agent, Robert Fraley, is scheduled to meet with Dodger Vice President Al Campanis Sunday morning in Vero Beach. Fraley said that he probably will press Campanis to trade Bream, “although I can’t understand why he’s not playing first base for the Dodgers.” The trading deadline is midnight Monday. Campanis came out strongly again for first baseman Greg Brock Friday, saying: “Brock has never looked better.” . . . On the possibility of making a trade before the deadline, Campanis said: “It seems like nobody’s doing anything.”
