U.S. Roman Catholic bishops visiting Nicaragua said President Daniel Ortega assured them that he wants better relations with the country’s Catholic hierarchy and with the Reagan Administration. The five-member delegation, led by Archbishop John J. O’Connor of New York, includes Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of Chicago, Archbishop James Hickey of Washington, bishop Sean O’Malley of the Virgin Islands and Bishop Rene Gracida of Corpus Christi, Tex. According to Bernardin, Ortega asked the churchmen to “assist in building bridges between the United States and Nicaragua.
