School to Be Renamed: Effective July 1, Lampson Intermediate School will become the Dr. Walter C. Ralston Intermediate School, thanks to a unanimous vote this week by the school board honoring a former member who died last summer. The board also directed the staff of the Garden Grove Unified School District to develop a policy for naming or renaming schools.
Ralston was a physician who served on the board from 1969 to 1981. He was president three times, including 1980-81, the year he retired. Born in New York, he attended school there and obtained a master’s degree in education. After teaching chemistry in Arizona for three years, he received a medical degree from USC. Ralston moved to Garden Grove 35 years ago and from 1958 to 1961 served on the board of the Garden Grove Elementary School District, a predecessor to the unified district.
