Cal Lutheran Wins Opener
Cal Lutheran College scored five runs in the fifth inning and one in the eighth to slip by Occidental College, 6-5, in the baseball season opener for both teams.
Freshman third baseman Tom Bonds opened the scoring for Cal Lutheran by stroking a two-run, bases-loaded single in the fifth.
Cal Lutheran’s winning run was scored in the eighth inning when a sacrifice fly by Joe Fuca allowed John Egertson to score from third. An Occidental rally in the bottom of the eighth yielded three runs, but the Tigers went scoreless in the ninth.
