Lee Wins 10-Round Decision Over Lopez
Bert Lee, the World Athletic Assn. junior middleweight champion, won a 10-round decision over Danny “Magic†Lopez Monday night, as pro boxing returned to Orange County at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.
A capacity crowd of 1,549 watched Lee, of Anaheim, improve his record to 29-8-4, while Lopez, of Orange, dropped to 10-4.
The semi-main event on the card, a bout between Santa Ana’s Baby Joe Ruelas and Denver’s Ronnie Cisneros, was canceled because Cisneros’ plane was snowed in at Denver. Ruelas, instead, fought an exhibition match against Gabriel Lira, of Santa Ana.
In other bouts on the card, Alhambra’s Greg Puente fought Santa Monica’s Martin Escobar to a draw in the lightweight division, San Diego’s David Gutierrez won a four-round decision over Pasadena’s Frank White in the welterweight division, Santa Ana’s Luis Perez won a four-round, featherweight decision over Terry Clayborn, and Orange’s Lewis Hightower won a four-round, light heavyweight decision over Los Angeles’ Dan Murman.
