U.S. Captain Fined for Fishing Near Canada
Associated Press
BRIDGEWATER, Canada — A boat captain became the first American to be convicted of illegally fishing in Canadian waters since a new fishing boundary was established between Maine and Nova Scotia province last fall.
Antonio Camean, 36, of New Bedford, Mass., was fined $5,000 Wednesday after pleading guilty. He could have been fined up to $25,000. Judge Joseph Kennedy of provincial court said Camean’s trawler was barely inside Canadian territory and might have strayed because of storm conditions.
