The San Diego County coroner’s office identified the victims of Monday’s light plane crash in Pine Valley as pilot Steve Francis Sampo Jr., 47, of San Diego and his uncle, Joseph John Sampo, 64, of El Cajon. The two men died instantly when their Cessna 185 Skywagon crashed in brush south of Interstate 8, according to Deputy Coroner Chuck Bolton. The two men were returning from a business trip in Arizona and were trying to reach Gillespie Field in El Cajon when the plane crashed.
