Shoemaker Rides Foggy Moon to Victory in Santa Anita Feature
Foggy Moon overcame trouble on the far turn with a strong finish Thursday and won the $40,000 feature race at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Bill Shoemaker, Foggy Moon finished a head in front of Royal Explosion, ridden by Chris McCarron. Clear As Crystal, ridden by Sandy Hawley, finished third another neck back.
Covering 1 1/8 miles on a firm turf course in 1.48 4/5, Foggy Moon earned $22,000 and defeated six rivals in the race for older fillies and mares, 4 years old and up. The victory was the third in a row for the 5-year-old mare since Dec. 14.
Sent off the 2-1 favorite by the crowd of 20,145, Foggy Moon paid $6.20, $3.40 and $2.80. Royal Explosion, the 5-2 second choice, returned $3.60 and $2.80, and Clear As Crystal paid $3.80 to show.
