Councilwoman Peg Nelson said she is feeling stronger every day and is exercising daily to speed her recovery from a Sept. 23 stroke.
The 59-year-old -old councilwoman said she is “building up her stamina†with four hours of daily rehabilitative therapy, and that after spending time in a wheelchair, she is now learning to use a walker. The councilwoman’s speech was affected briefly by the stroke, but now she said she is concentrating on efforts to improve mobility in her left leg.
A former city mayor in 1979-80 and 1983-84, Nelson said she would like to thank friends and neighbors who have sent her more than 400 get-well cards and letters.
