The death toll from Turkey’s powerful earthquake was nearing 600 on Sunday as hopes faded of finding any more survivors in the rubble.
At least 596 people were killed and more than 4,150 injured in the magnitude 7.2 quake that rocked Turkey’s eastern Van province, near the Iranian border, a week ago, Turkish authorities said.
The last person dug out alive was a 13-year-old boy who was rescued Friday.

Workers using bulldozers and excavators began clearing away the debris from collapsed buildings on Sunday as search-and-rescue efforts wound down, news agencies reported.
Aftershocks continued to cause panic in the devastated quake zone, where thousands of survivors are sleeping in tents in the bitter cold, rain and snow, the Associated Press said.
