The radar guns will be out en force on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at UC Riverside, where pitcher Phil Bickford will try to deliver a Southern Section Division 4 championship for the Lions in a final game against El Rancho.
Oaks Christian has never won a baseball title, and Bickford is making his final appearance before next week’s amateur draft. He could be a first-round pick.
He enters the game with an 11-1 record, an 0.90 ERA, 128 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings with just 11 walks. He has given up only 37 hits.
And since the game is at night, it could be very difficult to hit Bickford, who has a 95 mph fastball.
