Windward’s speed proved too much for Oakland Bishop O’Dowd in the championship game of the Oaks Christian tournament.
The Wildcats dominated from the opening tip and remained undefeated with a 58-43 victory over the defending state Division III champions. Tournament MVP Jordin Canada led the way with 25 points, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer from halfcourt to give the Wildcats a 32-16 halftime lead.
Courtney Jaco had 18 points and fellow All-Tournament selection Kristen Simon added nine for the Wildcats. Canada’s steal and layup increased the lead to 44-28 at the end of the third quarter and the margin grew to as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter.
Senior guard Ariell Bostick led the Dragons (6-3) with 17 points.
In the fifth-place game, Gardena Serra got 19 points from senior guard Siera Thompson to beat host Oaks Christian 65-61. Caila Hailey added 12 points for the Cavaliers (12-2), who led 28-23 at halftime.
