Boys’ basketball: Bishop Montgomery is off to 7-0 start

Torrance Bishop Montgomery (7-0) advanced to the championship game of its division in the Mission Prep tournament on Friday with a 72-55 victory over Colorado Grandview.
Justin Bibbins scored 21 points, Lamond Murray Jr. had 19 and Stephen Thompson Jr. 18. Campbell Hall defeated Mission Prep, 71-17.
In Sacramento, Chaminade defeated Oakland, 79-70, to advance to Saturday’s championship. Jaron Martin scored 35 points. West Ranch lost in overtime to Sacramento, 68-67, despite 36 points and 16 rebounds from Ako Kaluna.
In Florida, Long Beach Poly suffered its first defeat, losing to Montverde, 76-51.
In Las Vegas, Santa Ana Mater Dei had two victories. In the morning, the Monarchs defeated Bishop O’Dowd, 67-46. Stanley Johnson had 23 points and Jordan Strawberry was four of four from three-point range. In the evening, the Monarchs defeated New York Our Savior New American, 55-39. Johnson had 15 points and Elijah Brown 13. Mater Dei plays in Saturday’s 6 p.m. championship game.
Compton defeated Fairfax, 46-41. Lindsey Drew and Jon Brown had 10 points apiece for the Lions. Earlier, Fairfax defeated Narbonne, 61-30. Sage Woodruff had 18 points.
In South Carolina, St. John Bosco defeated Wheeler from Georgia, 67-65, on two free throws by Darien Williams with less than two seconds left. Isaac Hamilton scored 20 points.
In Palm Springs, Palm Desert handed Calabasas its first defeat, 43-41. Jeremy Lieberman had 12 points.
At Windward, Palisades advanced to Saturday’s 4:30 p.m. championship game with an 82-45 win over Carson. Ammar Rehman scored 19 points and Ryan Ford 15. The Dolphins will play unbeaten Orange Lutheran, which defeated Crenshaw, 82-60. Payton Banks scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds for the Lancers. He’s two rebounds away from the school’s all-time record for rebounds.
Servite advanced to the championship game of the I-15 Winter Classic at Norco with a 62-60 win over Costa Mesa. Louis Juego scored 26 points and made six of seven shots from three-point range.
In Maui, Maranatha advanced to the tournament championship game with a 59-53 win over Lahainaluna Lunas.
