The surprise team of the City Section Division II playoffs is Jefferson (9-3), which has won nine consecutive games since opening the season with losses to Canoga Park, Reseda and Gardena.
The Democrats get a rematch against Canoga Park in Friday night’s semifinals.
‘We’re a much different team than in the beginning of the season,’ Coach David Wiltz said.
Everyone knows about Jefferson standout running back-linebacker Marcus Stamps, a San Diego State commit who rushed for 191 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 63-21 quarterfinal win over No. 2-seeded Eagle Rock.
But Jefferson also has another standout in 6-foot-3, 190-pound junior DaMarquis Longmire. He had touchdown catches of 60 and 51 yards. He also had a 66-yard touchdown run.
‘He’s big but really fast,’ Wiltz said.
Jefferson rolled up more than 600 yards in total offense.
