Encino Crespi opens its season a week from Saturday in Tucson, Ariz., where the temperature is expected to hit triple digits for a game against Salpointe Catholic, so Coach Jon Mack had his team engage in an intrasquad scrimmage Friday at 3:30 p.m. in sizzling heat.
The players hung tough and were given lots of water breaks.
Crespi’s running game showed signs of life, but the best player on the field was defensive end Ray Davison, who has eight scholarship offers. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior is going to be very difficult to block.
