At the final meeting of the year for the City Section Interscholastic Athletic Committee on Monday, IAC voted to add a section championship in girls’ wrestling with seven weight classes.
The section approved a rule clarification for the football season. The national anthem won’t begin until both teams are on their respective sidelines. If the start of the game is delayed, the violating team will be charged a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty assessed at the kickoff.
In other action, the City Section reaffirmed that athletes who transfer under new CIF transfer rules can practice with their team as long as they are academically eligible in having a 2.0 grade-point average.
Ed Johnson was voted in as the next City Section president. Chris Davis, an assistant principal at Granada Hills, was elected to replace Johnson in two years.
Starting this coming season in basketball, there will be four official units assigning games instead of just the Los Angeles Unit. That means schools in the San Fernando Valley will begin to have officials assigned by the San Fernando unit.
