The most important Southern Section Council meeting of the school year is set for Wednesday in Long Beach. The meeting brings together league representatives who cast votes directing how the Southern Section should vote at next week’s meeting of the State Federated Council.

The big agenda item is whether the Southern Section should endorse a series of proposals to revise CIF transfer rules, including implementation next year of a 30-day sit out period for transferring without moving. Currrently, the rule requires athletes to sit out one year.

The president of the Mission League, Audrius Barzdukas, said he expects the league to vote against the revisions.

‘We believe this is not the solution,’ he said.

The Marmonte League intends to vote in favor of the revisions, a sign that public schools believe the revisions will help them against private schools.

There’s also a vote on whether to endorse a new Open Division for the state basketball championships. And schools will have their last chance to plead their case on proposed new playoff divisions. The Marmonte League is appealing the decision to place the league in the Pac-5 Division for football this fall.
