Saturday’s quarterfinals in the Southern California Regionals has some intriguing matchups.
In Division I, it’s the battle of Orange County powers when Santa Ana Mater Dei hosts Mission Viejo. There’s uncertainty surrounding Mater Dei guard Katin Reinhardt. He didn’t play much against Crescenta Valley, and there was a report that he has an injured thumb. Messages left for Mater Dei Coach Gary McKnight were not returned on Friday.
Etiwanda plays at Loyola, and it’s a great matchup between two of the top sophomore guards in the Southland. Pac-12 coaches will be paying close attention to the individual competition between Jordan McLaughlin of Etiwanda and Parker Cartwright of Loyola.
Orange Lutheran will take on Long Beach Poly at Long Beach Jordan. Orange Lutheran is finally healthy and a very dangerous opponent for the Jackrabbits. Taft hosts Fresno Bullard, which routed Westchester on Wednesday.
In Division III, St. John Bosco and former Taft Coach Derrick Taylor come to the San Fernando Valley to play 3A champion Calabasas.
In Division IV, it’s another matchup of outstanding point guards and perhaps future Pac-12 rivals, with senior Brandon Taylor of Pacific Hills taking on junior London Perrantes of Encino Crespi.
