The City Section Division III basketball playoffs could be wide open if top-seeded Van Nuys Grant is unable to get back 6-foot-7 center Gor Plavchyan, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the next-to-last game of the East Valley League season.
He missed the final league game and couldn’t practice on Monday after they attempted to tape it. Grant (24-5) should be able to get past Bravo in its opener, but the Lancers will need Plavchyan starting with a second-round matchup looming against Chatsworth or Panorama.
Plavchyan, expected to be the East Valley League player of the year, is averaging 18 points and almost 12 rebounds a game.
Bell is seeded No. 2 and Locke is No. 3. Also, beware of Hamilton, which comes out of the powerful Western League and gave Westchester a close game during the final week of the regular season.
